FirePro® systems to be offered as an option on all machines

Kardex Remstar manufacture storage carousels for many different applications including the storage of many different materials. They very recently supplied a storage carousel for document storage at British Transport Police’s HQ in the heart of Birmingham. They have always traditionally used a Carbon Dioxide system which relied on the heat damage of the Detection Tubing from a fire to enable the release of the CO2 gas.

On this particular project, Kardex Remstar realised that the technology for fire suppression has moved on from these pressurised systems and so commissioned Bryland Fire to install its FirePro® system in the carousel. As the machine only has two possible sources of fire it seemed more sensible to only cover these two areas with FirePro® units rather than using a large system to try and flood the whole machine with Carbon Dioxide.

Linear Heat Detection cable was employed for heat detection as a more robust and reliable fire detection method, especially in hard to access places. This was therefore installed local to the motor gearbox drive for the carousel and also in the control gear drawer. Two FirePro® FP20S units were then installed to protect the control gear drawer, and an FP200S to protect the motor gearbox drive.

Kardex Remstar were so impressed with the FirePro® system, that they are now adding it to their own Price List as the recommended Fire Suppression method for all of their machinery.
